The Keynsham Light Horse are enthusiasts dedicated to the location of memorials and headstones to those involved in the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Over 1440 such memorials and headstones are presented here online.

We do not restrict ourselves to only the combatants - the support staff are as sought after, as are those at home e.g.
The officer in charge of Cape Town Harbour.
The civil servant who was sent to Natal to balance the books.
The widow of an officer killed at the battle of Hlobane.

Lance Corporal J Tomkins
Family memorial inscription to Lance Corporal J Tomkins, 58th Regiment, killed in action at the battle of Ulundi

Zulu memorial, Rorke's Drift
Memorial to the Zulu fallen at the battle of Rorke's Drift

The bravery of those defending their homeland in the Anglo Zulu War of 1879 is also acknowledged but Zulu culture means that physical memorials are much rarer.
The memorials take many forms. In pursuit of these thousands of hours have been spent on the internet, in libraries, museums, record offices and similar places. This work goes into the road trips where miles are eaten and cemeteries crawled over.....

The site is not intended as a genealogical database. It is a simple gazetteer of where their last resting places/memorials are. Eventually we will publish a book with much of the information we have gathered in but in the meantime feel free to use this site as a starting point for your own research. You can always email us for further details of any featured memorial.
Family memorial to Lieutenant Teignmouth Melvill, 1/24th Regiment, killed in action at the battle of Isandlwana and posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross
